The HOLIDAYS: Just around the corner

October 15, 2010

So, It’s mid October, and sure, Halloween has not even passed yet, but most of us are already thinking of the Holidays.  I guess because the Holidays are so full of joy, or should be all about joy, but unfortunately I think we may have turned it into a mad mans time of year, what with all the stress about gifts.  Sure it’s a beautiful thing to give and receive, but what about the other things that come along with the holidays?  The time with family and friends, the time to put all differences aside and celebrate life, joy, forgiveness……LOVE.  No matter what religion is behind your holiday, we all celebrate the same thing………Life, Joy, Forgiveness…… Love!!!!!

I for one, celebrate Christmas, and yes we made it all about Santa Clause, and yes, i”m still a little kid at heart who still Believes, but i have not forgotten that for Christmas, it truly is about the birth of JESUS, whom we believe to be our savior.  I however, have respect for the other celebrations of the season…..Hanukkah & Kwanzaa.  So happy preparations for ALL.

But as we all prepare for the season, let us not forget to enjoy what comes before….. THANKSGIVING Day.  I know that the sights for the holiday season is beyond amazing and beautiful, BUT….. The meaning behind Thanksgiving and all it’s decor is just as beautiful in its own way, so let us enjoy that first.

So…. I know that times are hard and most of us will probably cut back on most expenses, but in the event that you may still want to send out Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa cards, Please keep in mind that we have a beautiful selection of printed cards in our shoppe.  :)    So stop by, call, or e-mail us for your order.

THANK YOU always.  :)   LOL

Flowers shops vs Supermarkets

September 28, 2010

These days flowers seem to be found just about anywhere. Supermarkets, gas stations, liqour stores, Produce markets, corner bodegas….And…… sure the prices may be good, but is it the same quality as you would find at a Flower shop? Again, Yes, the prices may be good, but do they change the water, cut the stems or care in any way for their flowers. To be quite honest with you, i can’t even answer those questions truthfully because i do not work in a supermarket or a gas station that sells flowers but I run a cute little flower shop in queens and i can speak for all flower shop owners when i say we work hard to offer you fresh healthy flowers.

What do you think would happen to the flower shops if everyone decided to purchase their flowers any place other than a flower shop? We can offer you great personal customer service, beautiful unique designs using wide varieties of flowers, we can deliver, we can decorate your events, provide beautiful farewell pieces designed for the departed. I guess the point that i’m trying to get across is that, we, as florists need all of your support. So the next time you need or want flowers please stop by your friendly neighborhood florist.

If you want to share your opinion on this topic, i started a discussion on my facebook page LSF- A Little Shoppe Of Flowers. I would love to hear your opinions.

Flowers- A Gift Of Beauty

March 10, 2010

Ever since I’ve been working as a florist, I have had a new outlook on flowers. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the beauty that God has bestowed upon us. So many, and I mean so many beautiful flowers, that even as a florist I can’t imagine myself going thru and using each and every flower in my arrangements. Not only are there many flowers as I so mentioned before, but to think that the flowers and each of the colors they come in has a meaning or a tradition attached to it.

I would love to get to know each flower, their colors, their meanings, their traditions, their history, etc. Not that I want to overdose and become a flower historian, but I think it will give me a different perspective with my flower arrangements.

So every month I want to study and write about one flower. And for the month of March, I want to study………. The CARNATION.

I think that we have taken the carnation for granted and lost sight of its beauty. In fact most of my customers don’t want to have carnations in their arrangements because they feel that the carnation reminds them of funeral pieces, also because they believe the carnation to be a “cheap” flower.

How do you feel about the carnations?

Picture this: what do you see in this summer picture? We want to know…

December 31, 2009

This cool picture is so wild, because it makes you think which way is up. It has a lot of details inside, and I can see a tree hanging down from the top.

I also see the number 19 on the bottom. Some might think that was a natural shot… I’s difficult to tell what real and what is a Photoshop in this picture.

Sunflowers for Valentine’s Day instead of Roses

December 4, 2009

Most guys give roses on Valentine’s Day, so think outside of the box. Try Sunflowers or something that says you went the extra mile.

The image below shows a really big cool  eye set in the middle of a giant Sunflower!

How to make a scrapbook using colored flowers, a book and some newspapers

December 3, 2009

Scrap-booking flowers is a very unique way to express yourself and give a great gift that will last a life time.  Another great idea is to do a Seasonal Scrapbook of the different seasons of the year, using all types of flowers.

Maybe you can add foliage from the fall season to a section or a separate scrapbook. It’s your scrapbook, so you do what you want, just have fun with it. It’s very interesting how long flowers can remain in the scrapbook without damage.

The video below  is a how-to Gardening Tips video about scrap-booking using colored flowers. The video was created by the YouTube user ehow.
